Costumes – German (Bavaria)
We wear German dirndls which were ordered from Licht Trachtenhaus in Pennsylvania. Our dirndls are a variety of solid colors with embroidery on the bodice and around the bottom of the skirt. The skirts are “dancer’s skirts” which are made with a fuller skirt and wider hem so they spin better during turns. Austrian dirndls are generally a solid color or all-over print and can have chains across the bodice and flowers tucked into the bodice.
The following items are commonly worn by SIFD when performing dances from Bavaria, in southern Germany, and Austria. Many variations exist.
