The Springfield International Folk Dancers (SIFD) strongly believes in the idea that folk dancing is for everyone. We celebrate world cultures, including our community’s connection to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War era.  We strive to preserve each culture’s unique heritage through learning about their traditions and sharing them with our local community.

We’re throwing a birthday party for Abraham Lincoln and you’re invited!

The party will include a ball of dances from Mr. Lincoln’s lifetime in the Old State Capitol on the afternoon of his birthday, February 12, 2015.  No gift is required, but period attire is requested.

To get ready, please join us for dance lessons each Monday evening, 7:00-8:30 PM, in the Hoogland Center for the Arts, beginning January 12.  Period attire is not needed for the lessons, but women should bring their hoops and practice dancing in them.

Come, join in the festivities during this important year celebrating Lincoln’s life and legacy.
